Thought I’d change the language to english on my blog, so I can get some more readers here (I’ve not gotten any views in a long time.) But since english is the language of the web, at least the part of the web I’m reading, I’ll make the switch. Maby I’ll get better writing english as well, and that would not be so bad if I want to help out inn a OSS-project.
I’m a new programer with some experience in XHTML/CSS, Linux and basic configuration of many programs, distros etc. At the moment I use Cruncheee on my EEE PC 901, and Crunchbang on my Dell Lattitude 520. The main reasons for this is
1) Ubuntu base, vast repositories, good documentation
2) Openbox as the window manager
3) Simplicity, easy to configure, easy on the eyes.
4) Exelent community
On the EEE PC with the small screen I would recomend #! to everyone. It ships with the array.org kernel, and the simplicity of the distro really makes the small screen usable compaired to a full-fledged GNOME or KDE based distro.
If you have a ‘normal’ laptop and don’t have much experience (if at all) the safest alternative is probably ubuntu, it has good hardware support, it’s easy to use for people with only widows xp-experience. It’s stable and just superb for most users not interested in playing with the operating system, but rather want to get right on hacking, browsing, writing or whatever you use your computer for. If you’re a xp-user you really should check out what it’s like not having viruses, having a beautiful desktop, to try something that keeps all your programs up to date without you having to care at all.
